When Midjourney stops responding, the first job is to work out whether the problem is global or local to your account. The answer changes what you should do next.
1. Check the live status first
Our status page tracks the last recorded state of the service. Alongside it, open the official Midjourney status page and the #status channel in the Midjourney Discord — staff post there before anywhere else.
2. Test both surfaces
Midjourney runs on two front ends: the Discord bot and midjourney.com. Run /imagine in a DM with the bot, then try the same prompt on the website.
- Both fail → almost certainly a platform-wide incident.
- Only Discord fails → see Midjourney Discord bot not responding.
- Only the website fails → see Midjourney is down or not loading.
3. Rule out your own network
VPNs, corporate proxies, and aggressive ad blockers regularly break the websocket connection the web app uses to stream generation progress. Turn them off and reload before assuming an outage.
What happens to jobs during an outage
Jobs that fail with a system error do not consume GPU minutes. If fast hours were deducted for a job that never produced an image, Midjourney's billing team reverses it on request. Take a screenshot of the job ID before it disappears from your feed.
While you wait
Outages typically resolve in under an hour. Avoid resubmitting the same prompt repeatedly — that lengthens the queue for everyone and can leave duplicate jobs to cancel later.
